Buehrle's No-No: Ten Extra Outs?

Congratulations to Mark Buehrle for throwing the first no-hitter of the season last night. Buehrle only gave up a walk to Sammy Sosa, who was promptly picked off, thereby facing only the minimum 27 batters, on the way to the White Sox's 6-0 win over the Texas Rangers.

I was watching ESPN News late last night and saw Buehrle's postgame on-the-field interview. It was the usual post-game Q&A, until the very end, when the gentleman who was interviewing him commented that, other than Sammy Sosa, Buehrle was perfect, "37 up, 37 down." Here's the video:

Okay, an innocent mistake in all the postgame excitement. Buehrle didn't even miss a beat. He simply responded to the comment as if he'd heard "27 up, 27 down." (Maybe that is what he heard.) It's no big deal. However, I can't help thinking how different this situation could have been had the interviewer been a woman. My guess is that there'd be all sorts of stories about the woman, all negative of course. She'd be verbally "undressed" in all the newspapers, raked over the coals on radio talk shows, and jeered by fans on message boards throughout cyberspace. But, since a man said it, no one even noticed. (*sigh*)
