Goodbye Aura, So Long Mystique

The New York Mets have the best record in the National League. The Boston Red Sox have the best record in Baseball. The Yankees suck.

Suddenly the aura and mystique that were seemingly Yankee birthrights, have opened up Summer homes in Flushing and at Fenway. They were in evidence last night when Carlos Delgado hit his second home-run in the bottom of the 12th inning, giving the Mets a 5-4 victory over the Giants. Meanwhile, up at Fenway, Josh Beckett became the first Red Sox pitcher to go 8-0 to start the season since, you guessed it, Roger Clemens went 14-0 back in the '80s.

Tonight the Yankee game will be broadcast on a big screen in New York's Bryant Park. Clemens will be there signing autographs and, no doubt, trying to avoid an altercation with the media, something that seems to be happening more and more often these days, probably because the Carpetbagger From Katy is coming to realize that aura and mystic are on vacation right now and they might not come back in time for October.

Where were u from 80-94? Or should i say, you think there was aura and mystic then?

The only aura and mystic I remember from 80-94 was my huge crush on Dave Winfield.

Dave's not walking through that door!

The Yankees are done. Stick another broom in them tonight in Toronto! Save that broom, bring it to Fenway and stick it in them there on Sunday night after the BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL takes care of business and hammers down the last nail on the 2007 Yankee coffin! (oh and you might want to bring that broom to Chicago, because it's not going to get any better there!)

Your sound a little bitter. But great stuff!
