Go Johnny, Go

When Jason Giambi's plantar fasciitis put him on the DL back on May 31, the level of panic in Yankees Universe seemed to reach an all-time high. I have no idea why. As a DH, Giambi hadn't really made a meaningful contribution to the team all season, unless you're counting his "stuff" admission, a negative one, however meaningful it was.

Enter Johnny Damon. It's no coincidence that, since he became the full-time DH on June 1, the Yankees are 8-2 and have come from being 13 1/2 games out of first place to 9 1/2 out. They're also only 5 games out in the Wild Card race. As the lead-off hitter, Damon does nothing less than jumpstart the Yankee lineup. Very simply, when he hits, they all hit. In his last ten games he's had 11 hits, 5 walks, 2 stolen bases, and 3 RBIs. Overall this season he leads the team in stolen bases with 11.

Obviously, being the DH gives him a chance to rest his aching legs and lower back. There was talk of him possibly playing some first base after Doug Mientkiewicz went on the DL. But with Damon feeling healthier as DH and Miguel Cairo doing such a good job at first, that talk has gone by the wayside, at least for the time being. Now the talk is about whether the Yankees should go after a real everyday first baseman instead. Well, the top two-thirds of the line-up is starting to put up monster numbers. The lower third is starting to make a name for itself as well (specifically, The Killer Cs: Cano, Cabrera and Cairo). I can't believe this lineup will again go through a horrible slump where absolutely no one is hitting. So I say keep things as they are. Leave well enough alone.

I couldn't agree more. I love the team with Melky in center. He has some real energy and he can actually throw like an adult! The DH version of Johnny certainly looks revitalized, hopefully he can keep it up!

Boy that streak just keeps continueing as you beat-up on teams worse than yourselves. Unfortunately Lady the streak is about to end and it looks like it's going to be a losing streak that starts up next. You see Lady. Now you have to play 2 first place teams. That would be Arizona and the your favs: the Mets! I don't know Lady. I think it's going to be a coming out party of the worst exposing kind! It's going to get ugly!!!

lad behind the plate, huh? Anyway, the Yankees won the last two series they played against the Red Sox, who, last time I checked, are in first place. So I don't think there's that much cause for concern.

Keep trying, "Kid Yankee," (or whatever you'll be calling yourself next week). I'll do my best to keep from laughing at them before I reject them!

Hey, lad, why do you, "Kid Yankee," "Schill's #1 fan," and "RS Nation" all have the same IP address? Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. I'm not even going to bother wasting my time with you anymore. See ya!
