Between yesterday and today I spoke to four different Netgear reps. I had trouble understanding two of them because their accents were too heavy. I thought call centers were only supposed to hire clear-speaking people. Talk about frustrating! I was already confused and the two of them only made things worse. They and the initial gentleman I spoke to had me thinking all my problems were solved, until I realized they weren't. Nothing but big teases, all three of them. The last rep I dealt with assured me that he could solve the problem, and it looks like he did. Hooray!
While all this was going on, the Yankees were doing some teasing of their own, offering to negotiate in-season with A-Rod, if he agreed not to opt out of his contract and if he agreed to add any extension to his current deal. Everyone seems to have overlooked the first "if." Why, I don't know. To me it's the key to the whole offer to negotiate. I think the Yankees knew A-Rod would never agree not to opt out. They know who his agent is. Boras would never allow it. Now they've given Rodriguez an ultimatum: "Sign an extension before opting out of your current contract or don't sign with us at all." The Yankees are trying to gain some leverage in the whole A-Rod sweepstakes. If the Yankees keep their word and stay out of the bidding this Winter, A-Rod and Boras are up a creek with only one word between them: Boooooooo!
