At this very moment, Yankees President Randy Levine and other front office officials are holding a conference call with the media. Levine just announced that Joe Torre turned down a one-year deal that would give him a $5 million base salary with incentives, which would be a pay cut.I started hearing about a deal about a half hour ago when media outlets were reporting that Torre accepted a one-year deal with a pay cut. Accepted? I couldn't believe that. Now the Yankees have confirmed that what I couldn't believe happened, did NOT happen. Yes, Joe Torre is the classy guy everyone thinks he is.
