From One Joe To Another?

If today's New York Daily News is correct, Joe Girardi will be the next manager of the New York Yankees. The team could announce his hiring by tomorrow.

Of the three candidates (Girardi, Don Mattingly and Tony Pena) I think Girardi is the wisest choice, not only because he was the NL Manager of The Year and because of his excellent (however short) managerial resume. It's also a wise choice because his personality is the opposite of Joe Torre's. He's not afraid to get up in someone's grill. The now infamous exchange between Girardi and the Marlins owner was, more than likely, blown way out of proportion. Girardi, I've heard, is a Christian, so there probably was no profanity involved. But that's where the exaggeration ends.

With Girardi at the managerial helm, the days of opposing players setting up recliners in the batters box would be over. Major League pitchers would be put on notice, knowing that if they throw at a Yankee, they can expect one of their own teammates to be thrown at as well. Tha's Joe, yo!

I'm upbeat about this choice. I think it was the best move too.
