A Minor League Sunday: Reading Phillies @ Trenton Thunder

I got a chance to go to a Trenton Thunder game today. The Trenton Thunder is the Yankees Double A affiliate. They beat the Reading Phillies this afternoon by a score of 8-4.

The Thunder used to be an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. In fact, Nomar Garciapara's retired number 5 still hangs over the stadium press box. That wasn't the only non-Yankee thing that stood out at the ballpark. Trenton is close to Philadelphia, so the park was filled with Phillies fans.

While I didn't get to see Austin Jackson, the Yankees' top minor league prospect (He was placed on the DL yesterday.), I did get to see Chase The Bat Dog. For those of you who don't know, Chase is an 8-year old Golden Retriever who retrieves bats in the bottom of the first inning during every Thunder home game. Here's a great video about him:

I'm hoping that Chase will get a chance to do his act at Yankee Stadium some time in the future. That would be so cool! Good dog, Chase!
