Right away I wondered who had provided the heroics. Who was the hero of the game? Who got the pie in the face? I couldn't search my phone for that info, lest I be written up or, perhaps, fired. So, I waited until I left the store and, on my way to the subway I checked, and began to think: Okay, so maybe I was wrong about Alex Rodriguez.
Yes, Mark Teixeira got the pie in the face, but had it not been for Alex Rodriguez's game-tying homer in the ninth inning, AJ Burnett might not have gotten the opportunity to prepare his first postseason treat.
Maybe I was wrong. Alex still has a long way to go. Don't forget, the last time the Yankees played the Twins in the postseason, it was in an ALDS. He was outstanding during that series as well. Then he fell apart during the ALCS.
Will he fall apart if the Yankees make it to the next round? I don't know. Here's what I do know: Even if Alex Rodriguez has a monumental ALCS and an equally monumental World Series, it will all be forgotten if he comes to bat with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning with the bases loaded in Game 7 of the Fall Classic and doesn't come through. Fair or not, such is the life of Alex Rodriguez.
