Is Alex Rodriguez Samson, the Biblical character whose supernatural strength disappeared when Delilah cut off his hair? When I hear the media talk about him these days, that's what comes to mind. I think of the hair as Alex's use of PEDs, and Delilah as Selena Roberts.
Whether the lack of PEDs is the reason for his average offense is hard to say at this point, but Alex seems to be making up for his current (and maybe permanent) lack of power. I like how aggressive he has been on the base paths lately, stealing second in last night's 3-2 win against the Royals, and tagging up and just making it to third in a previous game. He knows his team is having trouble scoring runs and he is trying to help out any which way he can. His defense also deserves a gold star. The throw he made from third last night to end the game was money. Yes, there's a power outage, but A-Rod is doing just fine with candles and flashlights.
Don't get me wrong. I understand that Alex Rodriguez hitting for power is one of the things that has to happen before the Yankees can be considered a playoff team. He needs to find that strength again. But until he finds it (or, if he doesn't find it) it's at least good to know that he is thinking about the team, and not just about himself.
