Last month, in the first episode of my new podcast, I said the following about Eric Chavez:
"...I think if he doesn't get hurt it's a successful year."
Well, that didn't take long. As you probably know, Eric Chavez left last night's game in the middle of his at-bat in the bottom of the 5th inning, complaining of dizziness. We later learned that he'd suffered whiplash, probably while diving for a ball off the bat of the Orioles' JJ Hardy. Chavez might have a concussion, and the Yankees might be making a roster move in the immediate future.
Whiplash diving for a batted ball? I'm shaking my head, but not as much as I was last season when Chavez hurt himself running the bases in Detroit. What is Chavez made of? When I was in high school my shop teacher asked a student who was blocking his view if her father was a glazier. Chavez's father must be a maker of fine china, because that's what his son acts like: A china doll.
Maybe Eric Chavez needs to just stop playing and put himself into that china closet called retirement.
