How the mighty have fallen. Several years ago this would have been perceived as a terrible blow to the New York Yankees. But with A-Rod being a shell of his former self, it's really only terrible to him. But, wait. It is a terrible blow to the Yankees in the sense that Eric Chavez will now be the everyday third baseman.
I'm not saying that Chavez is not a good player. Even though his best years are behind him, Eric Chavez is can still get it done. He can still pick it at third base and he is still a good hitter. What I am saying is that, since Chavez essentially had to stop being an everyday player because he is so injury-prone (I referred to him as a china doll in a previous post), it could be just a matter of time before Chavez joins Alex Rodriguez on the DL. Then who would the Yankees be left with? Jayson Nix?
Perhaps GM Brian Cashman will consider making another deal before the trade deadline, just as a precaution against the team getting exposed at the hot corner. It wouldn't be a bad idea, as long as no one really valuable is given up in return.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Alex Rodriguez.
