The Yankees have not played well over the past 30 days. The 10-game lead they had over the Tampa Bay Rays has been reduced to just 2 and 1/2 games. They are in danger of losing the lead entirely and, as a result, facing the possibility of having to play in Death Game 2012, my term for the one-game playoff. Brutal, right? Well, not if you're a Mets fan.
The Mets just got swept by the Colorado Rockies, one of the worst teams in MLB. How bad are the Rockies? They came into Citi Field with a record of 46-73 and with a top-to-bottom lineup of triple A players. The Mets played like little leaguers.
WFAN radio is the broadcast home of Mets Baseball and, after the final game of the series, Mike Francessa began his show (which is simulcast on the YES Network) with a recap of the series. Well, recap is putting it very mildly. Francessa went ballistic. If you haven't heard it yet, you have to listen to it, and if you're a Yankee fan, you'll feel so much better about your team. Here's Part 1:
And, Part 2:
Music to a Yankee fan's ears. Thanks, guys!
* With Ivan Nova now on the DL with shoulder inflammation, it's easy to wonder if he had been having problems with the shoulder before that 6th inning in Chicago the other day. The Yankees say no. Too bad. It would have been a perfect exclamation for his poor performance over the past month.
* Everyone is talking about Joe Girardi's reaction to a heckling White Sox fan during a postgame press conference. But no one is asking the following question: How did a White Sox fan get within earshot of Girardi in the first place? The press conference appeared to be taking place in the visitors' clubhouse. If anyone has the answer to this question, let me know.
* No Ladies At The Bat today. The ladies all seem to be taking breaks at the same time, as there are no recent posts to link to. Hopefully there will be posts to link to next week.
Thanks for reading the blog this week. Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
