T Minus 5: Yanks Win, O's Win

When the Orioles jumped out to a 6-1 lead last night, the Yankees only led their game 3-0. The Orioles kept pouring it on while the Yankees saw their lead cut to 3-1.  It looked as if the Blue Jays might come even closer, leaving the Yankees trailing in a game they had to have. But, thanks, in part, to Russell Martin's 6th home run of the month, Yankees Universe was able to breathe easier as the game drew to a close.

Tense times, indeed. Before the game started I contemplated not watching it. I feigned fatigue, but I was really just too scared to watch it. Like a good little blogger, however, I forced myself to watch it, and I'll have to force myself to watch the remaining 5 games. I don't ever remember things being so stressful at the end of a Yankee season, and I don't want to have to go through something like this ever again. But, I probably will.

Something else I wish I didn't have to go through ever again is listening to John Sterling call a Yankee game on the radio. Because of my job I usually have to listen to him call the first few innings on my way home everyday. Last night, when Curtis Granderson's line drive got stuck in Chad Jenkins' glove, Sterling failed to mention that the gloved ball was knocked into the air and that Jenkins caught the whole package. Listeners were led to believe that the glove fell to the turf with the ball in it. For the life of me I could not understand why the inning was over, until his partner Suzyn Waldman casually mentioned what happened at the beginning of the next inning, as if Sterling had explained things properly and she was just repeating it. Totally unacceptable.

It's a pretty hilarious play, though. Here it is, in case you missed it:

I'm Sterling-free this weekend. Go YES Network and go Yankees.
