ALCS Game 2: Tigers 3, Yankees 0

Before Game 2 of the ALCS began, the thought crossed my mind that the Yankees might come together against the Jeter injury and win one for the Captain. Apparently, I was asking too much. The base hits were, once again, elusive and the Yankees are now down in the series 0-2.

During his postgame press conference Joe Girardi said that his hitters are not making adjustments and they need to start doing so. Hitting coach Kevin Long basically said the same thing.Well, if they weren't able to make adjustments against Doug Fister and Anibal Sanchez, how are they going to do so against Justin Verlander, the reigning MVP and Cy Young Award winner?

Yes, I've heard the phrase, "You can't predict baseball." But it's hard to remember that while your team is in an 0-2 hole. Well, at least CC Sabathia would pitch the elimination game. That's something to look forward to. I guess.

Other notes:

* With 11 strikeouts and a perfect game into the 6th, Hiroki Kuroda deserved a better fate. If you do all of that on three days rest you deserve to win the game.

* It's easy to blame Kuroda's loss on umpire Jeff Nelson's blown call at second base. But, as I tweeted later in the game, you have to be able to pitch around errors and blown calls.

* Robinson Cano is currently 0-26 this postseason. It's the longest streak of its kind in postseason history. That is totally unacceptable from the best player on the team.

* What's going on with the fans at Yankee Stadium? Or, I should I say where are the fans? All five games on this postseason "homestand" should have been sold out. They were not. Hard to fathom.

* According to Marc Carig of Newsday, the Bleacher Creatures have turned against Nick Swisher, so much so that they are blaming him for Jeter's injury. On Twitter Carig quoted Swisher as saying, "Prime example. I missed that ball in the lights and next thing you know I'm the reason that Jeter got hurt."

Sounds like a change in scenery will do Swisher some good. Heck, it might do the entire team some good.
