Teixeira's Name Added To The Long List Of Yankee Injuries

When the Mark Teixeira news was announced yesterday, the first thing I thought of was this: Teixeira will be lost for eight to 10 weeks and nothing is broken????

How is that even possible? Curtis Granderson will be out just as long and something is broken. It makes no sense but, then again, I'm no doctor so I guess it doesn't have to.

Tex's name gets added to the already long list of Yankees who are either injured or coming back from an injury: Granderson, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, CC Sabathia, Phil Hughes, Michael Pineda, Boone Logan, and to a lesser extent, David Robertson. Before training camp started, we were looking at an aging team who had lost several key players to free agency. At the time, however, I still thought the Yankees were capable of winning the AL East and winning 95 games in the process. Now I'm not so sure.

I think it will be very hard for this team to win 90 games. Winning less than 90 games will have them, in my opinion, fighting for the second Wild Card at best. Unless something changes.

That something could be the decision by the Yankees to scrap their new-found fiscal conservatism. Do I think they will do that? I'm not sure, but I don't want them to. It's not like the season is six weeks long. If they tread water until the end of May when Teixeira and Granderson are expected back, they still would have most of the season left to make a run.

Get well, soon, Tex. Etc, etc, etc....
