Jeter & A-Rod Returns Imminent? (With Updates)

Will he, or won't he?

That question pertains to two players: Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. We should know today if Derek Jeter will be back in the Yankees lineup tonight against the Red Sox.  We'll probably know about A-Rod Monday morning, although he is already insisting that he will be in the lineup that night against the Texas Rangers.

If both players make it back when they so desire, it won't necessarily mean that the cavalry has arrived. These are two guys in their late 30s. Their best years are behind them. The Yankees cannot depend on them, and since they don't know when Curtis Granderson will return, they need to make a deal.

They need to but, will they? Now that the Biogenesis scandal and the threat of suspensions seem to be on the back burner, no team has to worry about it affecting the trade deadline.  However, who can the Yankees trade for? That is the million dollar question.

In any case, assuming Jeter and A-Rod return by the end of this weekend, they will, at the very least, generate an uptick in attendance. After the weekend series in Boston and the mid-week series in Texas, the Yankees return to the Stadium next weekend for a series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Knowing that the Captain and the starting third baseman will be in the lineup then should result in a lot of fans rushing to get their New York Yankees tickets.

Hurry back, guys.

Update:  Though Jeter has now been placed on the DL, his return is still somewhat imminent, as the stint is retroactive to July 12th. He could be back in the lineup next week. Now we wait for news on A-Rod.
