The Yankees are coming off an encouraging series win against the Angels, only their third such win since early July. The offense has finally showed up, giving Yankees Universe reason to believe a postseason berth may be possible. A big weekend series in Boston starts tonight, which might be New York's last chance to make a run at the division.
All these things are happening right now. However, what's overriding it all once again? Alex Rodriguez.
If what 60 Minutes is saying is true (that A-Rod's people leaked documents showing Ryan Braun's and Francisco Cervelli's connection to Biogenesis), then the guy should be banned from the game immediately, and for life. (His own teammate?!)
I know, I'm not holding my breath. It's not going to happen. But it should.
Anyway, when I heard this latest piece of A-Rod news, I thought about what happened yesterday: the Yankees signed corner infielder and home run hitter Mark Reynolds. I started putting two and two together and hoping that Rodriguez was about to drop his appeal and serve his suspension.
Again, I'm not holding my breath. It's not going to happen. But it should.
To say that it will be a circus tonight in Boston is the major understatement of the year. If you didn't think A-Rod was a distraction before, you have to believe that he will be tonight. I just hope the Yankees can somehow find a way to win a couple of games in between the all the clownish high jinx.
