Last night, when the Yankees were trailing 4-1 against the Orioles. I thought all was lost for the game and maybe even for the season. But then, enter Alfonso Soriano.
To think about where this team would be had Soriano not been acquired earlier this season is to expose oneself to a nightmarish scenario. But why think about such things when you can focus on what the man has done? His two home runs last night capped one of the best comebacks the Yankees have staged this season.
I loved how, after the game, Soriano said he'd followed the Yankees earlier in the season before there was even a hint that he would be traded to them. The guys on the YES Network postgame show expanded on this, saying that it shows how much of a Yankees fan Soriano is and how meaningful it is to him that he is back with the team that started it all for him.
The Yankees will have to do a lot more if they want to be like that team that started it all for Alfonso Soriano. With just 17 games remaining, it goes without saying that they need to win virtually all of them if they want to make the playoffs. They have a good chance of doing so with Alfonso Soriano in the lineup.
