This afternoon MLB announced the draft order for the first round of next year's First Year Player Draft, to be held June 5-7, 2014. It could change but, the Yankees have the 18th pick. That's probably a little higher than it's been in recent years. While that's not surprising, it is a little weird, especially when you see who has picks after them, thanks to the successful seasons they had in 2013:
Kansas City Royals - 19th
Cleveland Indians - 24th
Pittsburgh Pirates - 27th
Of course, this doesn't mean that the next Michael Wacha will be wearing Yankee pinstripes. It probably means nothing at all. It's just some fun information to ponder while the Hot Stove begins to heat up.
