Can The 2014 Yankees Win The World Series?

Can the 2014 Yankees win the World Series?
The short answer to this question is probably a straightforward ‘no’ right? The standings say it all.
But wait just a minute; the Yankees are upping their game both on and off the field. Just last week, for example, the team signed Japanese pitching star Masahiro Tanaka.  It definitely signals the Yankees’ ambition.   Besides, if World Series history has taught us anything – it’s that anything is possible!

The Yankees are the East Coast’s big spenders by a long way — while the West Coast’s biggest equivalents, the LA Dodgers, were thought to have made an offer to Tanaka equal to the Yankees’.
The Diamondbacks were also thought to have bid a 6-year, $120 million contract for Masahiro Tanaka, a 25-year-old right-hander who was 24-0 during last season for the Rakuten Golden Eagles.

If you’re considering betting on the Yankees, be aware of Derek Jeter’s optimism; Jeter thinks they can win it all this year and if he’s right, a wager now may be a wise one. With Betfair, the world’s biggest betting exchange, the Yankees are a best-priced 20-1 at the time of writing – a fair way down the list at tenth favorites, trailing behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, St Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics and yes, even the Atlanta Braves!
But so what? That’s why markets are markets and 20-1 may well reflect the Yankees’ realistic chances. So will the Yankees win the World Series? Probably not. But can they win the World Series? Absolutely! And that 20-1 has to be worth a few dollars? Stranger things have happened.
