Girardi: Ellsbury's Calf Might Keep Him Out Of Game Against Red Sox

Well, that didn't take long.

Jacoby Ellsbury was scratched from yesterday's spring training game due to a tight right calf.  The prevailing comment around Yankees Universe was that Ellsbury would have played had it been a regular season game. He was due for an off day today and was expected to be back in the lineup tomorrow against his old team, the Boston Red Sox.

However, this morning Joe Girardi announced that, while Ellsbury will take batting practice today, he is doubtful for tomorrow's game.  According to LoHud, when asked if the centerfielder will play tomorrow, he said, "My guess is it will be no but we'll see."

It's been years since Jacoby Ellsbury went a whole season without injury. Will this be the case this season as well, his first year with the Yankees?

Perhaps I'm jumping the gun. I hope so. But when it comes to Jacoby Ellsbury, that's a jump that can be quickly forgiven.
