Yankees Pitchers Enjoying Spring Training So Far

So far, so good.

Yankee pitchers who are expected to be on the 25-man roster this year have performed well through the first few spring training games.  Those performances could not be more evident than they were on Saturday, when the trifecta of CC Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda and Masahiro Tanaka took the mound.

Each of the three threw two shut-out innings. While Kuroda was the best of the three, Sabathia and Tanaka, rightfully so, got the most attention. Sabathia failed to hit 90 mph which caused a minor firestorm on Twitter, and Tanaka silenced a storm of Yankee haters waiting to erupt all over the internet.

I wouldn't worry about Sabathia. He seems prepared to adjust in the event his velocity doesn't return. As for Tanaka, he will have his ups and downs throughout the year, of course. I am glad that his first appearance of the spring wasn't one of the downs.

Tanaka will pitch again later this week.  As for today, Ivan Nova will make his second start of the spring.  Among those scheduled to come out of the bullpen are David Robertson and Shawn Kelley.

Speaking of Shawn Kelley, did you know that he has a connection to the Oscars?  David Waldstein of the New York Times posted a story over the weekend about Kelley growing up with Jennifer Lawrence, one of last year's Oscar winners who was a nominee this year.  Good stuff.

Enjoy the game, Yankees Universe.
