The Minnesota Twins put on a display of stoicism the other day when they said farewell to the Captain.
1. The last second base ever used at the Metrodome, on October 11, 2009 when the Yankees eliminated the Twins in the ALDS. The gift was presented by Twins 2B Brian Dozier, who idolized Jeter while he grew up.
2. A check for $10,000 to Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation, presented by Hall of Famer and fellow member of the 3,000 Hit Club, Paul Molitor.
Analysis: The Yankees 21st Century stranglehold over the Twins has been well-documented and their willingness to face it during this presentation was very commendable. Their attempt at being self-deprecating, in the form of a speech by manager Ron Gardenhire, was spot on as well. I was, however, expecting another gift to round out the package. The base actually falls a little short.
Rating: On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being garbage and 10 being perfect-- 7
Your move, Cleveland Indians.
