Throwback Thursday-- Get Used To It, Yankees Fans: We're Going To Be Here For A While

The Yankees are now 41-42, 4.5 games out of first place and 5 games out in the Wild Card race. After spending all of that money and making all of those changes, their record is actually worse than it was at this time last year.

For fans of the team it is more than frustrating.

Prepare to keep on being frustrated, Yankee fans.

While I didn't predict a record like this on the day before the Fourth of July, I knew when I posted to this blog back on January 29th that things wouldn't be easy for this team, this year and for the foreseeable future:

"...It will definitely be a while before the Yankees will have more than a few players from their system who are Major League ready.  For that reason they will need to continue shopping in the free agent market, a market that continues to thin out as teams continue to lock up their young players before free agency arrives.

"This is bad news. Why? Because it means that, until there is a viable farm system, the Yankees, (though they will field competitive teams) won't be good enough to win the World Series...."

Yes, it all goes back to that weak farm system.  As I said back on January 29th, get used to it Yankees Universe. We're going to be here for a while.

Update: The Yankees appear to have just signed a boat-load of international free agents. Perhaps they're looking at this as a possible solution to their troubles. We shall see. Article here.
