The Texas Rangers showed their trump card this week during their farewell ceremony for Derek Jeter.
1. Yankee-themed cowboy boots and a $10,000 check for Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation.
2. A surprise appearance by President George W Bush, who presented Jeter with an autograph photo of the two of them during the 2001 World Series.
Analysis: Really, Rangers? Cowboy boots? The Houston Astros already gave Jeter a pair at the beginning of the season. Could they not think of anything more original? Perhaps they thought that, since President Bush was going to surprise Jeter, it didn't matter. As for the President, his visit isn't that much of a coup. After all, Mr Bush is a former owner of the team. He also lives near the ballpark.

Two more months of ceremonies. It will be interesting to see what gifts they bring.
