For Yankees, Time to Build On What Was Started This Week

With the Yankees taking the series from the mighty Detroit Tigers comes memories (for me, at least) of that first home stand after the All Star Break: the Yankees swept the Cincinnati Reds and they took three out of four from the Texas Rangers.  However, they then went on to have a mediocre road trip, wiping out all the good feelings the Reds and Rangers induced.

This cannot happen again. It is too late in the season.  The Yankees now need to take care of business this weekend against the Cleveland Indians, before heading off on a road trip to Baltimore and Tampa Bay. The time for stumbling is over. They need to build on what they started this week.

It would have been hard to say they were capable of doing so a few weeks ago. But now, with all the acquisitions Brian Cashman has made (and yes, you have to include Stephen Drew), it is very easy to believe they can do it, especially when they sit only 1/2 game out of the second Wild Card spot.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that this is a World Series team. However, as improved as this team is, they should be able to stay in the hunt until the very end of the regular season.

Until that end comes, the Yankees should be a really fun team to watch.
