In Yankees' Future Plans, Prado Continues To Live In The Moment

In the Yankees 8-1 win over Kansas City last night, Martin Prado was 2-4 with one RBI.  Prado, as the saying goes, has been en fuego.

After getting off to a slow start, he has proven to be one of the best--if not the best--pickup this year by GM Brian Cashman.  In Prado's last 10 games he has hit for a .385 average, drove in 10 runs, hit three home runs and scored eight runs.

He has virtually carried the team at times during this run. However, when asked about his accomplishments, Prado always minimizes what he does and makes it about the team, so much so, that he has become really boring to listen to.  If he continues to put up solid numbers, however, I'll listen to his boring spiel for as long as he wants to give it.

Prado played LF last night, but seems to do better at the plate when he is playing one position consistently. With two years left on his current contract, it's easy to see him as the starting 2B for both the 2015 and 2016 New York Yankees.  Knowing the Yankees, however, they might keep him in a utility role, playing him all over the diamond and in the outfield.

Of course, we are still in 2014 and, as Prado has said, we should worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Today the Yankees are just 2.5 games out of the second Wild Card, and are now 6 games out of first place with eight games left against the Baltimore Orioles. They won last night and they need to keep winning. Go Yankees.
