Andy Pettitte Day: What It Does & Doesn't Mean For Bernie Williams

Now that Josh Pettitte has let the cat out of the bag about his father's big day at the Stadium in August, it's time to take a closer look at what it means or, more specifically, what it doesn't mean.

Last May the Yankees announced that they were having a recognition series, which started last summer and will continue (and, perhaps end) in 2015. Those recognized last year were Joe Torre, Goose Gossage, Tino Martinez and Paul O'Neill. Included in the announcement was an assurance that, in 2015, another player would be honored: Bernie Williams.

So, although Bernie Williams has been left out of things in the past, he won't be left out of this recognition series. Just because we know that August 23rd is Andy Pettitte Day, doesn't mean that there will be no Bernie Williams Day.  Bernie Williams Day might even take place before Andy Pettitte Day.

The only issue here seems to be that Bernie's kids know how to keep a secret better than Andy's do. Everyone needs to stop jumping to conclusions. Let's wait for an official announcement, about both days, from the New York Yankees.

Update, 3:37pm: See? I was right. Bernie's getting his day, as are Posada and Randolph.
