A-Rod Has First Career 0-6 Day: What It Could Mean

Alex Rodriguez was 0-6 at the plate yesterday. For the first time ever.

Significant? Perhaps. After the game Rodriguez admitted he was pressing in his pursuit to tie Willie Mays for 660 career home runs. The pressing is one thing, but there are three other possible reasons for this slump.

The first, of course, is age. A-Rod will be 40 years old in July. Skills naturally diminish as one gets older.

The second is adjustments. Having seen what he can do, pitchers have adjusted to overcome it. Then, because of his age, he is having a hard time adjusting to their adjustments.

Third: PEDs. I'm talking about the lack of them.  Going 0-6 in a game for the first time in his career could also mean that he is finally, truly clean.

It will be interesting to see how things develop from here on out. Will the A-Rod Apologists carry on? Will the A-Rod Haters feel vindicated? Only time will tell.
