For the second night in a row, the Yankees took a quick 2-0 lead, but went on to lose to the Rays. Once again, they were unable to get the big hit, and their AL East lead was reduced by another game.
There were some good things to take away from these last two games, especially last night's, the biggest of them being the offensive production from the middle of the order. Last night's results were very favorable:
Alex Rodriguez, 1-5
Mark Teixeira, 2-4, RBI
Brian McCann, 2-4, RBI
Carlos Beltran, 1-4
Add to that the success the top of the order (Ellsbury and Gardner) has been having, and you have the makings of an offense the Yankees haven't had in two years.
Offense was one of the reasons this Yankee team was picked by many (including myself) to not make the playoffs. If they continue along these lines, I will be the first to stand up and admit it: I was wrong. Carry on, fellas.
