After the game Twitter was filled with tweets that included #SuperNova. As I read through them I smiled and nodded in agreement. Until I came to this one:
I believe that Tanaka should shut it down like Ivan Nova did, #SuperNova looked awesome today on the mound!— Anthony Vazquez (@AV625NY) June 24, 2015
Really? After several doctors told Tanaka he didn't have to? Even though his ligament tear is nowhere near as severe as Nova's was? Despite the fact that he is in no pain right now?
Statements like these are premature. They are of the same ilk as the ones made when the Yankees were 3-6, and when Didi Gregorius was playing like the worst shortstop in the history of baseball. Just because Nova was lights out yesterday doesn't mean that he'll go undefeated for the rest of the season. Just look at Matt Harvey. He's had his ups and downs since returning from Tommy John Surgery. Ivan Nova will, too.
For now, though, we can all enjoy the warm fuzzies from yesterday's great start. Congratulations, Super Nova, and best wishes for the rest of the season.
