I suppose I can start by expressing my hope that he gets well soon. But he won't get well soon.
I can echo his own belief, that he will take control of the situation. But he won't.
Really, it won't be easy for CC Sabathia from here on out. He is an alcoholic, which means, in order to have any hope of a normal life, he must take things one day at a time.
Though I am not an alcoholic myself, I am a compulsive over-eater. Years ago, I attended Overeaters Anonymous meetings religiously. That program is based on the same principles that Alcoholics Anonymous is based on: The Twelve Steps. The first step is to realize that you are powerless over your addiction. You never take control. You are always in recovery, for the rest of your life.
Sabathia will learn that, likely on his first day in rehab. He may not believe it that first day, but I'm hoping he will, eventually. I'm still hoping for it for myself as well.
Best wishes, big fella.
