Baseball America has just posted its list of Top 10 Yankees prospects:
1. Jorge Mateo, SS
2. Gary Sanchez, C
3. Aaron Judge, OF
4. James Kaprielian, RHP
5. Domingo Acevedo, RHP
6. Rookie Davis, RHP
7. Tyler Wade, SS
8. Rob Refsnyder, 2B
9. Wilkerman Garcia, SS
10. Dustin Fowler, OF
What strikes me most about this list are the three starting pitchers smack dab in the middle of it. With still no movement made toward acquiring a free agent starting pitcher this off-season, it's easy to wonder if the Yankees will look to add one of these three prospects to the 25-man roster at some point in 2016. Currently, only Rookie Davis is on the 40-man roster, but that can change anytime.
There are also three shortstops on the list. With Didi Gregorius likely a place holder for Jorge Mateo, Tyler Wade and Wilkerman Garcia could be trade bait for other needs the team has or will have in the future.
Then there is Rob Refsnyder. It remains to be seen what will be done with him, now that Starlin Castro will be the team's starting 2B. The only scenario I can see for him is a trade.
Of course, the season doesn't start tomorrow. Plenty of time to see where these kids end up.
