It all went down at Tropicana Field, the home of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Trop showed its infamy during the game when it gifted Matt Holliday with the first hit of his Yankees career. But there were no gifts for Headley. He paid his own way, and the park was called, for one night at least, Chase Field.
During the game I wondered if Headley could hear the Scranton Shuttle coming up behind him. He and the other veterans on the team cannot rest on their laurels anymore with all the kids on the farm who are chomping at the bit. Add to that the recent announcement that top prospect Gleyber Torres will be playing 3B as many as three times a week at AA Trenton, and you can see why there might be a sense of urgency emanating from Chase Headley.
It was nice to see Headley's mates get in on the fun as well. Sabathia looked great and Ronald "Toe" Torreyes was both Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner.
Next game: a chance to win the series. Go Yankees!
