Sevy, Kraken, Toe Lead Yankees Past Tigers

After Masahiro Tanaka showed ace-like stuff in his return from the DL, Luis Severino was "on the clock." You knew he wanted still to be called the ace.

You can still call him the ace.

With a series win hanging in the balance, Severino did what an ace (or, any pitcher, for that matter) is supposed to do to a terrible team: 6.2IP, 6H, 1ER, 1BB, 8K. He got a lot of support from his offense, including Mr August (Gary Sanchez), Aaron (Is The Slump Over) Judge, and Ronald Torreyes.

Ronald Torreyes was 4-4? Yes! Toe was 4-4 with an RBI and a run scored. What would this team have done without him this season? He has more than filled in, first for Didi Gregorius, and now twice for Starlin Castro. I love how he spoke so glowingly of Castro, ready to welcome Castro back with open arms. Castro owes him a huge gift. Heck, the entire team owes him.

Castro seems to off to a slow start in his rehab assignment, but he'll be back with the big club before we know it. However, there might be some others ahead of him. Namely, Greg Bird. How unbelievable is that?  After all that has happened, I never thought we'd see Bird again this season. You have to admire the courage it took to speak up and insist he was still hurt, running the risk of of looking like a wimp and receiving criticism from many (including myself). We might see him in the Bronx as early as this weekend.

A chance for the sweep today.  Perfect time for Jaime Garcia to finally show why the Yankees traded for him. Go Yankees.
