Yankees Handle Red Sox, Begin Daunting Road Trip Today

In his five starts against the Yankees this season, Boston's Chris Sale was 0-3. In fact, if I am correct, the Red Sox won only one of those games. Pretty disappointing, considering that, as the season progressed, Boston maneuvered their rotation so that Sale could pitch in each of the remaining Yankee series.

Well, not disappointing for the Yankees, of course. They handled Sale and the Red Sox, taking three out of four, stating loud and clear that the race for the AL East crown is not over.

However, they're looking at a tough job. Really tough. But it is do-able. They have the rest of the month to make up 3.5 games on the Red Sox, and to increase their 2.0 game lead in the race for the first Wild Card.

Then, again, there is plenty of time for Boston to pull away, and plenty of time for the Minnesota Twins, etc, to catch and pass the Yankees.

In other words, get ready for a very, very stressful stretch run, Yankees Universe.

As long as no one else gets hurt, they will go through this stretch with a lineup that includes a healthy Matt Holliday, Starlin Castro and Greg Bird. So don't get too nervous about the moves other Wild Card contenders have made recently. Holliday, and especially Bird, are "moves" the Yankees have made.

It all begins today in Baltimore with the youngster Jordan Montgomery on the mound for the Yankees.  Keep the line moving, guys.
