Yankees Win As Sevy Goes Distance, Stanton Goes Yard Twice

Should we call them the S & S Boys?

David Cone joked that the rest of the team didn't have to get off the bus, because Giancarlo Stanton and Luis Severino took care of business all by themselves last night.

On a warm Houston night, the roof at Minute Maid Park was open, and that might have contributed to the success of both players. Stanton, from the Los Angeles area and having begun his career in Miami, and Severino, born and raised in the Dominican Republic, were in mid-season form. Stanton drove in all four runs for the Yankees, and Sevy notched his first career complete game shutout.

It was the Yankees' second-straight win in Houston, a chamber of horrors up until the previous night's game. It was also the second-straight shutout of the Astros, to whom that has not happened since 2013, I believe.

Sevy was on the ropes at one point, until Gleyber Torres made a spectacular play at second, saving at least one run. Yep, it's definitely true: Gleyber Good.

The Yankees have now won 11 of their last 12 games. According to a tweet from Buster Olney, over those 12 games, they have outscored their opponents 73-20. Wow.

I had been hoping for a split of the four games, but they have a chance to win the series today. It'll be Masahiro Tanaka vs Lance McCullers, Jr. Let's get it done!
